Welcome to Class 12 (Year 6)!

In Year 6, we love learning with our class teacher (Miss Evans) and our fantastic teaching assistants (Mrs Hampton and Ms Ward). Together we make memories, supporting and caring for every special individual that creates our wonderful Year 6 team.

In Year 6, we have many responsibilities and we are excellent role models to the younger children. Several members of our class are on our School Safeguarding team where we have regular meetings with Mrs Weichlbauer to discuss our school environment as well as our health, safety and well-being.

PE

Every Monday. We ask that children come to school dressed in their outdoor PE kit in which they will wear for the day.

The Spinney

Every Tuesday. Children should come to school dressed in old, outdoor clothing ready for our learning outdoors. Children may bring wellies in a bag to school that they can change into when required.

This half term, we will learn about what it was like to be evacuated to a family other than our own. Using different source materials, we will learn about evacuation and write letters to our families 'back home'. We will plot the events of the Second World War on a timeline as well as looking at the position of the First and Second World War in relation to events of British History. From a range of maps, we will also identify safe and dangerous places during the war and make persuasive posters to support war effort. After reading an extract from 'The Diary of a Young Girl' by Anne Frank, we will write our own diaries. From a range of sources, we'll find out about children and school during the war and learn about discrimination that existed at the time. We will also learn about what it was like during The Blitz and think about how soldiers must have felt. In Design and Technology, we will make Anderson Shelters and cook delicious wartime food.

Miss Evans sets out homework every Friday- homework usually consists of an online activity or tasks to be completed in our Homework Books. We are also set weekly spellings which we are encouraged to practise with adults at home and put our spelling words into the appropriate context in sentences. Homework is due in on Wednesdays.

Every week, we are also encouraged to read at least 3 times a week at home. Our Reading Records are checked regularly by Miss Evans and Mrs Hampton.
