Ladygrove Primary School

 Welcome to Class 3

In this class we love learning and having fun!

This half term our topic is Memory Box. Over the next few weeks we’ll focus on history - all about the past. We'll explore what the children remember. Do they remember being small? Being a baby and learning to crawl? Do they recall a favourite toy, maybe a teddy bear or a best-loved book? We will have a look back at family photos of special occasions, perhaps holiday snapshots or a birthday or two! Remember a wedding or a christening and maybe even find a funny photo of their parents and carers when they were young! At the end of our project, we’ll have so much to share with you. We will make a special box; a memory box, to keep special things. In years to come, they can revisit them and remember how they looked when they were in year 1. Memories are special. Lets make some more!

We are always here if you have any concerns or questions and would like to thank you for your support.

PE - Tuesdays and Thursdays

Feel free to send PE kits in on Monday to stay in school all week. Children will need a white t-shirt and blue or black shorts.

The Spinney (forest school) - Fridays

We would like the children to come to school in their forest school clothes (waterproof, warm clothing that you don’t mind getting dirty and wellies/boots-all labelled please) with a labelled plastic bag to put muddy clothes and boots into afterwards. They will need to bring their school uniform and school shoes in a separate bag to change into.

In English this half term we will be continuing to work on forming sentences and punctuating them correctly using full stops and capital letters. We will also be encouraging the children to use phoneme mats to help with spelling and will focus on presentation and handwriting. All of these skills will be taught through writing recounts, diary entries, rhymes, mnemonics and descriptions.

In Maths we are focusing on addition and subtraction. We will be launching this using lots of objects to help. We will continue to work on number formation and counting. We will introduce number bonds, part-whole models and fact families.

Our Science topic is 'Using Our Senses' and will involve us exploring our five senses. This will include us discussing our likes and dislikes. We will continue our learning around the five senses during our spinney sessions (forest school).

This half term we would like the children to read at least 3 times a week as their homework.

We would also like them to practise their letter formation to help with writing sessions.
