In English this half term we will be continuing to work on forming sentences and punctuating them correctly using full stops and capital letters. We will also be encouraging the children to use phoneme mats to help with spelling and will focus on presentation and handwriting. All of these skills will be taught through writing recounts, diary entries, descriptions, emails and more.

In Maths we are focusing on addition and subtraction, we are also introducing 2D and 3D shapes. We will be launching this using lots of objects to help. We will continue to work on number formation and counting.

Our Science topic is 'Materials' and will involve us exploring a variety of different materials. This will include sorting a range of materials into categories. We will continue our learning around materials during our spinney sessions (forest school).

This half term we would like the children to read at least 3 times a week as their homework.

We would also like them to practise their letter formation to help with writing sessions.

We will also be sending children home with phonics homework to complete.

Paws, Claws and Whiskers

Soft fur, sharp claws and twitching whiskers. What’s your favourite animal? One that meows? One that barks? Or maybe one that scurries or slithers? From pets at home to animals in the zoo, let’s find out what animals like to eat and where they like to sleep. Do you know how to look after a rabbit? A cat? Or even a snake? Find out how the elephant got his trunk and how the rhinoceros got his leathery skin. Perhaps you know how the dog got his waggy tail? Can you make a food chain to show who eats who? Who is a herbivore and who is a carnivore? When a gaggle of mysterious pets arrive at the local pet shop, it’s up to you to take care of them. Feed them, clean them and discover their daily needs. After all that work, curl up and take a cat nap.
