Ladygrove Primary School

Welcome to Class 8

In Class 8, we are enjoying a busy term of learning. We began by learning about about prehistoric times through our topic of Tribal Tales and have recently started our new topic of Potions. By reading George's Marvelous Medicine, we’ll learn all about mysterious potions, and write a safety
label for George’s bottle. We’ll sort everyday items into solids, liquids and gases. Using our investigation skills we’ll explore
capacity and the properties of liquids. We’ll also design fabulous bottles for magical potions. Becoming super scientists,
we’ll investigate chemical reactions and states of matter. We’ll research the use of anaesthetic and learn what life was like
without it! We’ll write spells with magical, strange or gruesome effects – what ingredients will we use? We’ll also create canvas art on a large scale!

In Class 8, we are kind, helpful and enthusiastic, and have a great attitude to our learning.

PE takes place on Tuesdays and Thursday and Year 4's go swimming on Tuesday's. Please ensure children have both indoor and outdoor PE kit in school and swimming kits on Tuesdays.

Reading diaries are checked on a Thursday and children are awarded with Golden Time on a Friday for reading 3 times or more.

Homework is set on a Friday and due in the following Thursday.

Spelling tests and times tables are tested on a Friday.

In Class 8, we are enjoying a busy Spring Term of learning. We began by learning about Gods and Mortals and have recently started our new topic of Misty Moutain Sierra. Throughout this topic, we will be focussing on the water cycle; writing a diary from the perspective of a water droplet and a persuasive text about saving water. We will also have a geography focus of researching mountains around the world and how these have been formed.

Each week, homework and spellings will be set on a Friday, to be completed and handed in by the following Thursday. The spellings for each week will be taken from the National Curriculum Year 3/4 spellings list and the homework will relate to the work covered in class in the week. Most homework and spellings will be set on Purple Mash.

Pupil login details for Mathletics, Purple Mash and Times Table Rockstars can be found on the inner cover of Reading Diaries.
