In Maths we are looking at Place Value. Our focus will be understanding the value of digits and ordering and comparing numbers and secure our knowledge of rounding numbers. We will apply these to problems to develop our problem solving and reasoning skills.

In English, we are exploring myths and legends linked to our topic of the ancient Greeks and developing our own narratives, through describing plots, characters and settings. We will be challenging ourselves to develop our vocabulary through adventurous word choices and figurative language.

Whole Class Reading

In Whole Class Reading we are sharing the Boy in the Girl’s Bathroom by Louis Sachar

PE is on Wednesday and Friday. Please can you ensure your child comes to school in their PE kit that day.

We will be using the Spinney on a Thursday, so your child will need to come dressed in comfortable clothes that day, with a waterproof coat and a change of outdoor shoes.

This term Year 5 are going back in time to Ancient Greece to learn about this amazing civilisation, with its stupendous architecture, science, philosophy and religion. We will also be going beyond our classroom to blast off into space to explore our solar system, galaxy and the universe. We will discovering why we have seasons, phases of the moon and discover time-zones, longitude and latitude.

Homework is set every Friday to be handed in the following Friday. This may include tasks on Purple Mash, written work or a creative project. Spellings will also be set and there will be a test on the Friday that the homework needs to handed in.
